What Is WorkCover Queensland?

WorkCover Queensland is a statutory body that provides workers’ compensation insurance to Queensland employers. It supports businesses and their employees in case of workplace injuries. It ensures that injured workers receive fair compensation for medical expenses, rehabilitation support, and lost wages during their recovery period. At Build Physiotherapy, we work hand in hand with WorkCover Queensland, ensuring our clients receive the benefits they are entitled to while providing top-notch physiotherapy services for their recovery.

Am I Eligible for WorkCover Physiotherapy?

If you’ve been injured at work, or have suffered an illness because of something you experienced at work, you are eligible to make a claim through WorkCover Queensland.

Steps to Report a Workplace Injury

  1. Incident Report: Notify your immediate supervisor about the injury or accident that occurred at your workplace.
  2. Insurance Details: Your employer will provide you with their insurance information. Most companies in Queensland are insured through  Workcover Queensland or you can reach out to them directly at 1300 362 128.
  3. Medical Assessment: Schedule an appointment with your General Practitioner to obtain a Work Capacity Certificate (medical certificate). This certificate is necessary for Workcover Queensland to initiate a claim.
  4. Claim Submission: File your claim with WorkCover Queensland, after which a claim number will be assigned to your case.
  5. Pre-Approved Treatment: Upon the approval of your claim, you’ll be entitled to five pre-approved physiotherapy sessions.
  6. Pending Claims: If you’ve filed your claim recently, it may still be under review by WorkCover Queensland. We can still provide you with physiotherapy services if you have a pending claim, however, you’ll be responsible for the initial cost of the treatment. Once your claim is approved, any payments made by you will be reimbursed.
  7. Claim Status Inquiry: To check the status of your claim, contact WorkCover Queensland at 1300 362 128.

What Does WorkCover Queensland Cover?

  1. Initial Assessment and Treatment Sessions: WorkCover Queensland typically pre-approves six sessions for the assessment and treatment of your injury.
  2. Additional Treatment Sessions: Based on the progress of your injury, your physiotherapist may request more sessions as needed.
  3. Recovery Aids: Most recovery aids suggested by your physiotherapist, such as therabands, rollers, or braces, are covered by WorkCover Queensland, translating to no out-of-pocket expenses for you
  4. Income Support: WorkCover may provide support for other aspects of your recovery, such as income assistance. These matters are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, fall outside the purview of a physiotherapist, and are best discussed with your WorkCover case manager.
